7G-TRONIC automatic transmission (7-speed)[1] The 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission increases ride comfort with an exceptionally smooth gear change process. The system can also skip individual gears, for example, changing directly from the seventh to the fifth gear, which is especially ideal for overtaking manoeuvres. Together with very short shift times and a low noise level, the 7G-TRONIC significantly increases the driving dynamics and also makes a considerable contribution to reducing fuel consumption.
AIRMATIC damping system AIRMATIC provides ride comfort and driving dynamics at the highest level. The air suspension system works in combination with a fully automatic damping adjustment which continually adjusts to the driving situation and provides excellent road roar and tyre vibration characteristics even when the road is only slightly bumpy. In addition the vehicle can be raised on poor or unfavourable stretches of road to increase ground clearance. When driving continually at a high speed the vehicle is automatically lowered, which improves handling and reduces wind resistance - an additional contribution to reducing fuel consumption.
DIRECT SELECT gearshift with steering-wheel gearshift buttons With the DIRECT SELECT switches on the back on the steering wheel all you need to do is tap them with your finger to change gears. For optimum acceleration you need only keep the "Downshift" button depressed and the transmission will automatically change to a gear with the optimum torque.
Active Body Control (ABC) handling control system The electronically controlled Active Body Control (ABC) dynamic handling control system increases the sporty driving dynamics by suppressing the vehicle body's pitching, rolling and vertical movements. The vehicle body also automatically lowers from a certain speed, which improves handling and at the same time reduces wind resistance and fuel consumption. When the road surfaces are poor it is also possible to raise the level of the car with the push of a button.

ADAPTIVE BRAKE braking system The integral ADAPTIVE BRAKE system improves ride comfort and safety by helping to execute critical braking manoeuvres with the basic function of the ABS anti-lock braking system and making difficult driving situations easier with convenience functions. These include the HOLD function which acts like a parking brake and can be activated by briefly depressing the gas pedal. The HOLD function then keeps the vehicle from rolling unintentionally when stopped at a light or in stop-and-go traffic. The hill-start assist prevents the vehicle from rolling back unexpectedly on inclines when changing from the brake to the gas pedal. The brake drying function ensures that full braking power is available even under wet conditions. And with the priming programme the system reduces the response time of the brakes.

KEYLESS-GO drive authorisation system[2] KEYLESS-GO is an electronic drive authorisation system which allows the driver to unlock or start the vehicle without having to use a key. The driver need only carry the KEYLESS-GO transponder and pull the door handle. Simply pressing the start/stop button starts the car.

Four power windows with PRE-SAFE® closing function
PRE-SAFE® occupant protection system PRE-SAFE® recognises the danger of accident early on and activate safety systems which can reduce the change of injury for vehicle occupants. To accomplish this PRE-SAFE® continually monitors the sensor data from the systems such as ESP® and BAS and identifies events such as noticeable understeering or oversteering and emergency stops. If a critical driving situation should occur, the belt tensioners are activated within fractions of a second, the electrically adjustable seats are moved to a favourable position in the event of a crash and the side windows or the sliding/tilting sunroof is automatically closed. In conjunction with the rear bench seat with electrically adjustable outer seats or the individual rear seats the head restraints are also moved to a more favourable position in the event of a collision.

Integrated safety concept The integral safety system is a package of technical elements and measures which can protect the vehicle occupants during dangerous situations as well as before, during and after an accident and also reduces the consequences of an accident. In the first step the following systems work to identify dangers even as they approach or provide assistance in critical driving situations: ADAPTIVE BRAKE, tyre pressure loss warning system, adaptive brake lights, rain sensor, ESP® including ABS/ASR, BAS and AIRMATIC. If an accident can be detected beforehand, PRE-SAFE® springs into action: the reversible belt tensioners improve their hold and prevent undesired passenger movement, the side windows and the sliding sunroof automatically close up to a residual crack and the front passenger seat and the left and right rear seats are placed in their optimum positions. In addition the head restraints automatically move into position. If the vehicle contains any multicontour seats, their seat side bolsters for the cushions and backrest are inflated. During an accident the occupants may be protected through numerous airbags and restraint systems. After an accident the doors and windows are automatically unlocked or opened and the engine is switched off. The fuel supply is also interrupted and the hazard warning lamps are also activated. All this occurs automatically.
