Virtually no other area inspires us to produce consistently impressive results more than safety. We passed an important safety milestone during the 1950s with the development of the passenger safety cell, an invention by Bela Barenyi. Today it is just one of many components of our safety concept, which edges us ever closer to our vision of accident-free driving.
The integral safety concept divides automobile safety into four phases: in the safe driving phase the vehicle helps the driver to identify and deal with critical handling situations promptly.
In the second phase, in the event of danger, numerous preventive measures are activated to reduce the risk of injury. In the event of an accident, the occupants can benefit from the high-resistance passenger compartment and a comprehensive range of passive safety systems. After an accident further measures come into play, e.g. to facilitate easier rescue.
