4MATIC full-time all-wheel drive provides excellent traction whatever the road surface. It splits the engine power in a ratio of 40%:60% between the front and the rear wheels – for 100% roadholding.

For the maximum active safety and handling control possible, the 4MATIC full-time all-wheel drive works in close tandem with the Electronic Stability Program ESP® and the Electronic Traction System 4ETS. If one or more wheels lose grip, 4ETS applies precisely controlled amounts of braking pressure to allow powerful take-off and acceleration even in bad weather and particularly on poor road surfaces. Ride height has been raised 10 mm compared with the rear-wheel drive models, for extra ground clearance.

4MATIC is available for the E 280 CDI and E 320 CDI diesel models and for the E 280, E 350 and E 500 petrol models.
